Sewer flooding

Working on a flood protection scheme in Winchester High Street.

Working on projects to help protect against sewer flooding is a vital part of Southern Water’s programme.

In 2007/8 we worked on 22 of Southern Water’s schemes to help protect against sewer flooding meaning properties can be removed from the Environment Agency’s flooding risk register.

We recently started work on a £10 million scheme at Eastney to help protect Portsmouth from sewer flooding during heavy rainstorms. Part of the work includes installing a new underground pumping station capable of dealing with 9,000 litres of water every second.
