Undersea pipes ready to be laid as part of the Cross Solent Main water supply scheme

The £15 million Cross Solent water main replacement recently completed after five years of planning. The scheme was to replace pipes under the sea bed which supply water from Hampshire to the Isle of Wight. These 2km pipes will allow 20 million litres of water to be pumped onto the island every day.

The new pipes have been designed to carry up to 70 per cent more drinking water to meet the island’s increasing needs. Demand for water is likely to increase by 15 per cent over the next 25 years due to population growth.
