4D and Southern Water teamed up with regeneration charity Groundwork to provide environmental awareness sessions at schools and youth community groups focusing on the water cycle and the need for the environmental improvement schemes taking place.
Groundwork works with partners such as 4D to help improve the quality of people’s lives and the places where they live and work.
In one such scheme, local schoolchildren practised their town planning skills by helping design the route of a new eight kilometre pipeline that 4D and Southern Water laid alongside the River Medway as part of an environmental improvement scheme. They also learned how to use water efficiently and designed and planted a drought-tolerant garden.
Other education programmes are being carried out at schools in Eastney, Hampshire, close to flood protection work taking place there.
